Fuel Sender Power comes through coolant temp switch? 3208T

I've had a couple of random electrical problems and I'm trying to
figure something out.

The hot wire for my 87FC35 (3208T) fuel sender goes through what looks
like a temperature sender/switch on my block. If I'm under the dog
house, the "sender/switch" looking thing is about 6" northeast of the
fuel sender itself. (It is screwed into the engine and when I loosen
it antifreeze comes out.)

I'm suspecting that this sender/switch is bad.

Does it make sense that this would be wired this way? I presume if
the engine overheats it opens a contact and quits sending power to the
fuel sender, therefore shutting down the engine before it can be
damaged?? Anybody know?

Alan,

I was trying to picture what your problem is but... well... the fuel
sending unit is in the fuel tank, which on an FC is a lot farther
than 6" from the engine.

Why don't we start with what the electrical problems are, and go from
there.
