Air Steps--Resurfacing Ideas
The air steps on my '91SP are a rubber/vinyl tile that is a bit
shabby, especially the leading edge. There is a right angle piece of
aluminum serving as the edge on each step but it appears to have been
glued and re-glued in place numerous times. I'm about to re-glue it
but I know it will come off again and I'm wondering what ingenious
methods have been used to re-surface the steps. I did see a picture
on one of the forums where someone had replaced the step surface with
diamond plate shiny steel. I think I would like some practical and
durable tile-type surface with a leading edge that will last. Any
help welcome.

8"x 18" sheets.I purchase it from home depot.

Austin, you can install a black rubber stair tread on that step. Any large
carpet store-- not the big box stores can get you one. they come in 3, 4, and
6 foot lengths. I installed those in a number of coaches. There is a little
maintenance upkeep on the outside as with the suns rays it needs to be cleaned
often. Looks attractive on the steps especially with stainless steel risers.

Liz, yes they come in many colors. Trouble is-- you gotta buy a bunch to
justify the custom order.
I have a piece of outdoor carpet in a deep blue color that may do the trick,
instead of the outside tread.

Ernie, do you know if those rubber stair treads might come in colors
other than black?

If you can cut a straight line, you can buy a heavy rubber doormat from WalMart,
or even a heavy rubber automotive floormat, cut it to fit and use liquid nails
or Gorilla glue or some heavy double-stick tape to hold it on. A lot cheaper
than buying real rubber stair treads.Brad Barton 00LXiDFW bbartonwx@...

-I replaced mine with a plastic grass like door mat. They come in
colors I used a gray one.Cut to fit step, remove the "grass" from the
edge glue to step and replace the aluminum edge.A good place to wipe
your shoes .
