Battery connect solenoid location
Does anyone know where the actual physical location of the battery
connect solenoid (connects coach batteries with generator battery) is.
I suspect that mine is not working.

Hi Tom,

The isolator circuitry and solenoid is usually
silver/chrome in color and about three inches long and
one inch in diameter and generally mounted vertically.
Typically has three electrical connectors; left, top
and right, with obvious, heavy-gauge, wire
connections.

Most gen solenoids I've located are in the gen
battery compartment; however I have seen them in the
engine compartment mounted beside the coach/engine
isolation solenoid.

If mounted in the engine compartment, look on the
vertical wall, toward right, rear of engine as you
would look from an open engine compartment, and about
3 feet left of curbside edge. Unless you want to
climb onto the top of the engine LOL, you will access
it from the curbside opening above the batteries.

Whereever it is located, be careful disconnecting
the wiring (i.e. support the wiring as you unscrew
nuts/screws) as many have their diode wires connected
between/among the connectors and among heavier wire
connectors, and the diode wires can easily break off
from the diodes themselves.

Tom,

Try looking in front of the front passenger tire, mounted on a bulkhead,
near the rear of the air step. You have to get on your back, slide underneath
the air step, and look up. that's where mine is on my 86 38' PT (and I had to
replace it too, along with the big diode in the battery charger compartment
(curbside compartment, in front of the battery/engine compartment side
grille).

Good luck...

Kevin,

Thats where I was thinking it might be, but still have not found it
there. I did find two insulated posts with battery type wire going to
them. I'll need to physically trace them. There is a solenoid right
in the most forward drivers side bin, where the gen. slide tray
controls are. I'm wondering if thats it? I do have the large diodes
in the back. Why did you have to replace one of those?
