New Tires

New Tires
I am very leary about putting off brand tires on my coach without
knowing something about their reliability and roadworthiness. It only
takes one thrown belt on a 12R tire to possibly do many thousands of
dollars of damage. I have been quoted $425/each for Firestone 400
12R22.5 16 ply bus tires that I know are good. Its tempting to save
$700 on 4 tires but its a tough decison to make. I want peace of
mind knowing that I can put them on and they will last for at least 6
years. Thats an extra $125/year for peace of mind and possibly a
better wearing tire. Still undecided. Got time dont take the road
test until June 6th here in NY for my R endorsement on my license so
I can legally drive the coach. Are there any other New Yorkers with
Bluebirds that dont have their R endorsement?

Tom,
It just does not make sense to me to spend the amount of money we spend for a
Bluebird and then want to scrimp on tires.
Anyone who has ever rode out a blown tire will probably tell you to spend the
extra money for peace of mind and safety. I'm sure even the best of tires fail
from time to time. I'm also sure that a lot of failures are caused by abuse, low
or high pressure, hitting curbs, age, etc..

New Tires
I've metioned it before and I'll do it again. If one wants to get the most bang
for the buck, change to 11R24.5s. Best thing for the ride and handeling I've
done to date. Night and day improvement. If you got the OEM 7" wheels, you
need to buy new ones anyhow, can't put the 12Rs on them narrow wheels. 24.5s
are cheap and easy to find.

New Tires
I know that I need to do that soon. The old stuff was falling all over the side
of the engine and creating smoke...you should have seen the look on the prior
owners face when smoke started coming out on the test drive. I figured it was
something minor and cleaned all the grass, insulation and other stuff from
off/around the engine and it seems to be fine now.
What product is the best for the insulation? It looks like people are using 2
kinds...There has been some talk about a 2" lead insulation...any comments on
that product?
Thanks,

New Tires
Chris,
Contact Stephen Birtles, forum member. I have installed his insulation
product and it works great. It comes already glued.

New Tires
I bought my new OTSU tire from Les Schwab for around 390, tax included. That
is for a 12Rx22.5. I like it so far, and its reassuring to know that at least
one of my meats is new.

Speaking of....Now I want to get the brakes worked on. Any Washington 'Bird
owners here with a good recc. of where to go in the Sound area for brake work,
or should I just stick with Schwab?

Thanks

New Tires
Any class 8 or heavy truck repair shop can do the work or you can
have it done at your local Bluebird School bus dealer:

Bryant Motors, Inc.
1300 Bronson Way North, Renton, WA 98055
(425) 255-3478, FAX (425) 226-4192
Primary Area of Responsibility: Washington (except for 5 River Counties)
