Dorn, I dont think it wacky to dump the genset. AC power usage is
personal. The big genset supply the airconditioner operation
efficiently but do a poor job on recharging batteries efficiently.
For Ariconditioner usage, I would bet the effort to recharge
batteries drained from an inverter run airconditioner is more than
running the genset to realtime power the aircon.

You may do well to drop in:
A....two or 4 L-16's house bank
B....The Xantrex inverter
C....a honda 2,000 watt mini genset ( why they call it an inverter??)
D....and a bank of start batteries.
It would be nice to have a small genset that runs on diesel but the
honda can run on propane. if you have not a need to use much heat
when you travel, the bus has storage for that fuel.

I have an over sized battery bank (6 L-16's) which is great for 3
days in the desert followed by 6 hours on the road to recharge. but
when it comes time to charge the large bank while camped, it takes
three times as long as running just two L-16 up to full charge.
There fore, there is not much benifit to a large bank unless you use
the Cat/Detroit chargers to rebank the juice as you drive to another
stop.

I like to schedule battery bank recharge for periods where I have a
high demand of AC usage like heating water and microwave cooking.
when the genset spinns I want to maximize benifit from the fuel it
consumes. I want the two inverter/chargers to have a backup inverter
and major amp recharge when I run the genset. The problem with
the 'Big BlueBird genset recharge exersize' is ;as the house battery
bank gets closer to full, the draw on the chargers goes way down but
the genset spinns effort that is lost fuel$$$$$. If I can justify
other uses for a Honda 2,000 watter, I would like to get one to run
on propane as my onboard propane supply is large and under utilized
(heater is coverted to diesel Wabasto). I would then not need to
cary gasoline.

Several other question about having two independent inverters
supplying power:

Would the two 110 AC outputs would be equivalent to two legs of
houshold current? combined to make 240?

DO the controllers shake hands??

Hi Greg, Honda calls them inverters because they are not the
typical, a motor driving a generator to produce electrical current.
The parts which produce the electric are some how integrated within
the engine itself (which I don't fully understand how they do that).
This is done to save weight. I have several of them (used them with
my trailers and 5th wheel). Very nice easy to start, quiet. I carry a
1000watt as sort of an back up. I just installed a small inverter in
my bus prior to that if I wanted to watch TV or run a small appliance
I had to run the big generator. I dry camp some so if I could I
would run the Honda and plug the shore line into it which was much
more fuel efficient and if I could set the Honda off a distance you
could not hear it at all inside the bus. My house generator does not
have a separate battery so if I screw up and run my batteries too low
I can't start the bus. So I have the Honda in my storage compartment
just in case. I can either charge the batteries with the Honda or
jump the generator using the Honda. Problem of course is carrying
gas. Propane would work but then you would not have the ability to
move the generator from location to location, unless of course you
used a small propane tank which you could move with the Honda or
rigged up some type of hose system. They are very nice, typical high
quality Honda products.I don't leave home with out one. With a EU2000
you could run everything but the microwave or AC.

Goggle cruise air for a good description how the system works and
dealers--about like a house unit--uses R22

I stopped by AAP in Milford, VA to have my mid cruise air fixed. It
was showing a low pressure reading on the SMX. Had bitched it before
at a dealer. Evidently, they just topped off the R22 and left it at
that. The tech at AAP --almost 40 years working on them--found the
leak and fixed it.

As an aside, the tech mentioned that if folks charge these things who
are used to fooling with house heat pumps: There is a tendency for
them to overcharge our cruise airs in the bus.

Professional, quick and fairly priced. Located 10 miles east off Exit
104, VA I-95.

They have a hookup so one could stop in the night before.

Nope but I plan to. Any residential AC service tech can work on them.
For some reason over the winter, I now have 2 that won't start up. No
fan or compressor operation. May be a loss of power to the control
panels/thermostats. Will run that down in the next week or so. At
least the rear unit for the bedroom cools like a meat locker. The
center unit was not cooling real well last summer so I bet I have a
loss of refrigerant in that one. Again, anyone can service these units
that has the gauges & refrigerant. They are a little touchy about
the pressures though as I understand. I know my filters are clean too
so it's not that.

Here is the responce from Xantrex Customer Serive.

I did buy 2 of these units. They are new in the box and Sun Electric
is an aurthorized dealer so the warrantie should be good.

I spoke with several tech guys and of course got several diffrent
answers. About all aspects of these units.

I was most impressed with a guy from Buddy Gregg Motorhomes in
Knoxville TN. Wayne Clapp a veteran BB Tech. His first question was
did I plan on keeping the coach? Well of course. Then you must get
these inverters out of the engine compartment and into one of the
bays. So were are going the reinvent the wheel. Not really a problem
the old compartment is really not large enough for the new inveters.

With the inverter box empty I think I'll throw in a couple more
Lifeline gell cells. That will make 8 house batts. Wayne also told me
he can with the addition of a few relays make the AC run on Batts.
With the additional 2 Lifeline's and the 2 new invetrers running off
of 8 Batts. in 2, four Batt. banks I should be able to run 2 AC'S.
The 300 amp alternator should be able to tow the line. I would be
nice to run the roof air with out the generator. Any help in fuel
economy is welcomed.

Any body want to buy a electric grill for their coach? Mine is coming
out, slide and electric components included.

I also bought 2 RC7/GS controlers off of e-bay. The were the best
deal for the $'s.

an RC7 by seaching the internet and the many dealers who may have a
