My sisters are across the Lionsgate Bridge from you in West Van.
Isn't it King Crab season there? For Chinese New Years???

Thanks and yes it is beautiful here. I live by the river not the ocean just outside of Vancouver proper and look out my front window and watch tug boats hauling log booms and other things past my place. Sometimes they tie up the logs out front. It is neat as there is always something going on and no street or traffic noise in front of my place. Just a boardwalk that is lit up beautifully at night. I will see if I can find a pic. Love it. It is no blueberry farm but it does me fine. Cool

Chinese New Year was last weekend and marks the end of the lunar calendar year. As they say here Gung Hei Fat Choi or Happy New Year. Not Gung Ho Fat Boy which is what they sometimes say when they see me! This is now the year of the snake. I was born in the year of the tiger so that makes me a tiger but heck... we all knew that! Angel

I am not sure if it is any special crab season or not. We have Dungeoness Crabs here that we are famous for and of course Geoduck clams. Huge phalic like clams that only grow off the Pacific coast I believe. Lots of them go to Asia and they are considered a delicacy. Google a geoduck clam and you will see what I mean. Lots of people don't know about them.

We used to live in the SF Bay Area, so we ate a lot of Dungeoness crab there too. Big Chinese population as well.

In Vancouver for the Chinese Gung Hei Fat Choi, the restaurants get and serve whole Alaskan King crab. They charge by the pound and you and your party, decide how big of one you want or need. 12lbs, 15lbs, or 20lbs? They then cook and serve it 4 ways. It's fun to go as a group and order one. They are huge! Monstrous!

Your place sounds very nice. If you ever make it this way, Gary, come visit.

PS. We did find a great home for the hound on 40 acres with a woman who rescues horse. I know you were concerned. We snuck him in here until we could find the perfect place for him.

I am so glad you found a place for the dog. They are my soft spot. My boy here is a rescue too and believe me I would not trade him for a million. A million one maybe. Now that is real dough! Dodgy

Ten bonus points ( and these are valuable) for anyone who can tell me where that last line came from.

As for the Geoducks I don't find them appalling in fact I admire their prowess!

Glad you are familiar with the area and I only have on e correction for you. There is no such thing as King salmon here. We call it Sockeye. I will learn ya Canadian yet!

Born in Ottawa. Raised in Toronto until 15, then moved to South Texas, California, presently in Florida since 2004.

Dad was from Saskatchewan. Prairie boy too. Although immigrated at age 3 with my grandparents from Denmark.

After WW2, he met and married my mother (from the British Isles, UK) in Vancouver.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it as well as the Kings. Google King Salmon, Sooke BC. I've caught the Sockeye before, smelly, although the most prized. Was Dad's favourite.

I wasn't catching Sockeye with a trap. LOL They are just very smelly, very smelly fish when you bring them in, land em! Heads though are excellent bait in the trap for da dungeoneese. Tongue
