best way to operate electric trailer brakes from BB pt-40

What type and make controller would be best to controll elec. brakes

on two axel trailer towed behind a pt-40? I notice there are electric operated or air- elec. operated. What would be the advantageof the air controled? Also I see that Reese has an hand- remote control. Would this be good or bad. Is there any reason you could not power the controler from the gen. set battery? thanks, marvin 1984 pt-40 |

On some brake controllers the controller unit under the dash is a kinda

rheostat that uses inertia to regulate the braking force. these controllers are enabled by the bus tail brake light throwing a switch after the controller ( if you go down hill the controller feels inertia and will signal trailer braking). I know of air over hydrolic brakes for trailers which is like a surge unit on the trailer operated by airpress from the tow veh. If there is a controller that uses air press as a force regulater for trailers , oder me one. In California you need a battery on the trailer for the brakeaway safty brake system. E brakes on a trailer do not react well with antilock tow brakes. I disable the antilock when towing with a pickup. Marvin, I placed an order for the controller. The advantage I see is

that it will send a signal to the trailer true to the operators force on the brake pedal. The harder the operator pushes the brake pedal the more juice it will send to the e trailer brakes( even at 5 mph). The inertia controllers are finiky and braking force is a factor of too many variables, even mounting position and mounting angle of the inertia-controller can change or disable braking force. The air to electric brake-controller is from SouthWest Wheel . 150.00

no shipping charge and I will pay 7.75% local Riverside County sales Tax as it is for a dumptruck business purchase. http://www.brakecontroller.com/ I have purchased axles, hubs and trailer parts from SW Trailer in the past with no problems.
