Tow bar issues, 2000 LXI
In late 2003 we went full-time and installed a Roadmaster All-Terrain Tow unit
to haul our toad. It has worked wonderful through the years and being a
conscientious sort I have sprayed various lubes in the hitch at least twice a
year to ward off rust issues. To check on the connection I would wiggle the tow
unit and it was always loose and I was confident that when the day came that I
wanted to take it out of there it would slide out just as easily as it slid in.
However, today, I've learned that like Rover, Sport, or Buster, or whatever your
favorite dog was named, these things can get hung up in other ways. The
lubricants did keep the rust at bay, but, the stresses created by the towing
(the pin on the holes in the tow bar itself, actually enlarged the rim around
the holes to the extent that the darn thing would not slide out of the receiver.
An hour of grinding later Motorhomes of Texas got it out, but, lesson learned.
My advice, for what it is worth: Take out the tow bar at least once a year and
grind off the edges around the holes for the retention pin.

In Nacogdoches for the nite.
