40W Oil
Have had the same problem in Charlotte for a few yrs. now. NAPA carries both Shell 15/40 wgt. and straight Shell 40 wgt., but you will usually have to call the various stores in your area to locate the 40 wgt., then have it shipped to your local store. One yr. I bought it in Belmont, NC,(ordered in), and the next yr. picked it up on South Blvd. in Charlotte. That yr. they didn't even have any in the main warehouse. I have heard that where there are a lot of 2 stroke marine DD's, and just 2 stroke DD's in buses, trucks, etc., there is less of a problem locating it. Makes sense. These old DD's are getting a lot like us, with fewer and fewer on the road yr. by yr. We may all have to write NAPA and get them to stock the 40 wgt to have it more readily available, as they are, (nationwide?),. They have always treated me fairly, and at least appear to appreciate my business. In addition they can usually match up old Delco switches, etc., for our BB's , if you get a hold of the right person. BTY, I have a 10KW Kubota/Onan gen., in a Eagle bus. The PO told me to use the Shell15/40 wgt. in the gen., and of course Shell 40 wgt. in the 8V71. I use straight 30 wgt. in my gas 6.5 Onan gen., in my Bird. My question, has anyone had a Kubota diesel 10KW gen. that was told to use any oil other that 15/40 wgt.? Thanks, George Burke 1977 FC31 (All Gas) Charlotte

The Mobil website does not even appear to list any straight weight diesel oils any more. I have not checked to see if Detroit Diesel dealers still carry their DD 'Power Stroke' branded oil (which was Mobil 1240). I saw no straight weight Rotella at my local Wally World over the weekend.

Hi Mike,

Try WW Williams in New Boston, Texas (430 miles from you) 903-628-9782.
I used Williams here in Savanna for an oil change and they told me they have no problem getting the stuff.
Maybe ship it to you?
