Crossing the Hoover Dam to get to Vegas

Hi Trudy,
We crossed the Hoover dam in 2005. Forty foot Foretravel and our Ford Explorer in tow. No problem with the dam. They did have an inspection stop just before the dam. The police were nice. Just a quick walk thru of the coach and towed vehicle. Real neat view. Yes, they are building a new overpass/bridge. I had no problem with the road to Vegas from there. I don't remember the route number.

Does anyone know if my PT40 with a toad will make it across the Hoover Dam? And how is Rt 93 from Kingman to Vegas? Or would it be better to go through Laughlin and take Rt 95?

I don't believe they allow rv's, bus, or trucks over the dam. They are building
a bridge but not completed yet. best take 95.

Will you be towing the toad or will it be riding with you?

Trudy,

I drove across the dam 2 years ago with a towed. A security guard came onboard
and did a quick search of the bus before we crossed. Don't wear a Turban LOL. We
made the run down 93 to Kingman easily. It was just HOT!!

Trudy,
Three things to consider here: 1. Will they allow you through the check point?
Unknown, best information probably the web site Fred listed. 2. Will the coach
make it? Probably, Steep grade, sharp turns, lots of stop and go, heavy traffic,
lots of brake use. 3. Can be very stressful driving conditions. Only you know
if you want to deal with that. Personally, I have made the trip several time in
my car or pickup, with the coach I would go up 95, park it in Vegas and drive
the Toad out to see the dam.

We parked free inside the tall parking garage at Planet Hollywood and took the tour bus from that garage..and were glad we did. They are actively discouraging "heavy" traffic near the bridge now. It will be different when the new bridge is finished.

Crossing the Hoover Dam to get to Vegas
The real question is if there is a restriction on RVs crossing Hoover Dam. Homeland security has had some restrictions in place, but I don't know if they're still in effect. This URL seems to have the latest rules:
It appears that motorhomes are allowed to cross, but are subject to inspection. All motorhomes will be inspected.
THe US 93 route across Hoover Dam has some challenging switchback curves in the immediate vicinity of the dam, but otherwise looks rather similar to the alternate route.
I've found that "how good" one route vs. another is depends very much on the skill and experience of the driver. Roads that were difficult for me in my first year of ownership aren't at all challenging now.
