89SP air brake wont release, all pressure gauges normal(115) front +rear
Went to storage today to bring bus home, and the brake knob wont push
in releasing the brakes. It feels like air pressue pushing back,
preventing me from pushing it in.All the pressures came up normal, both
front and rear gauges register 115.Step operates. Everything seems
normal. I put buss in reverse to back out of my space and it wont move.
then tried fwd, same result. If I add power in reverse it will try to
move. I tried and tried to press brake knob in but it wont go. When I
press brake pedel I here normal air release sounds.
Im not very experienced, am I doing something wrong? Any help would
be apprieated. Thanks in advance!!

Ed someone more experienced individual will chime in here soon but for now I would not try overcoming the emergency brake by putting it into driver or reverse. Nothing good can come of that.

Are you holding the brake pedal down when you push the button in.?? Try and see if it will work.

I never release my emergency brake without first depressing my service brakes.

I do not know if that will work. I have tried to push mine in without my foot on the pedal and the button was spongy. It's one of those thing you do without realizing it. I hope it works.

I note that I was having some difficulties with releasing my parking
brake, and I found that the screws holding the knob to the bracket
were loose. Tightened them up, and it worked better.

89SP air brake wont release, all pressure gauges normal(115) front +rear
you dont need the service brake (foot pedal) on to release the
spring brake. I park on a slight incline with the tow hooked and
release the spring/parking brake, let it roll to about 2 mph then
pull the park/spring brake lever to a stop, never touching the
pedal. the parking brake is refered to as the spring brake because
there is a spring that is always trying to apply the brake. when you
release the brake the valve fills a chamber behind the spring and
compresses it in. the drive axle has a brake chamber with twin
pumkin looking things. one pumkin is for the service brake and one
holds the spring. There is a long bolt on each twin pumkin that is
a tool to manualy release the brake for towing or emergancies.

I wonder if the brake camed over??? that is if the shoes are so
worn the lever that pushes the shoe to the drum went past center?????

it could also be modulator valve hung up or the 2 way valve. . I
would try dumping the air by shutting the bus of and pumping the
service brake untill it exhaust then try once again but wait untill
the tanks are full to max before you try and release the parking
spring brake.

if its a valve problem, chock the tires and dont leave air in the
tanks while parked.
