The only way I can avoid being roasted in the cockpit during the summer
is to turn off the valve near the engine that controls coolant
flow to the front heaters. Are the heaters controlled by
Sporlan valves and if so, where are they located and what kind of
a job is it to replace them?

Thanks.

Have a look for heater control valves old style the are used to
control with the temperature control they are probably seized
if necessary it is a kysor part
you should be able to regulate the heat from inside with out closing
the valve manually

Stephen

I have the same problem with my 1993 PT 40
have to turn off the valves at the engine to turn off the heat. Controls don’t
work, do you have any parts to fix??

Gardner, my wife use to get roasted, also. Come to find out, the insulation on the doghouse had a void in it.

The chassis heaters on our 88 FC are controlled by three Sporlan
valves.
One under the right front bumper, one under the left rear bumper, and
one above the drive side front tire hidden in a bundle of hoses and
wires. All needed repaired to control heat. After finding them it was
relatively easy, to repair with rebuild kits purchased from Stephen.
No experience and unsure of your 90 SP.

I don't yet know what my '78 FC has for valves, but my wife gets
roasted on her side no matter what I do. I would hesitate to turn
any valves I found, they would probably start to leak badly. Looks
like I have another project to find and replace something else..

There are some manual valves under the front of my 77FC35 that the previous owner showed me how to turn in order to enable or disable the flow of hot water to the heaters. They seem to do the job, albeit requiring laying on the ground and poking underneath to access Smile

the 77 and 78 have no sporlan just manual Valve. But if you are still
getting heat after shutting water control valve (base of Steering
Column I would bet that the small valves are stuck or control cables
are bad or broken
