New Engine fine -Entry Step not working
Recently returned from a spring break trip to Arizona. Covered 3500
miles, averaged 9.7 miles per imperial gallon. Overall a great trip.New
engine ran fine but I should have replaced the air compressor as it is
blowing oil out of the governor and is putting a little oil in the air
tanks. I am going to replace the compressor with a rebuilt shortly.

On the way home the air step stopped working. The air valve makes a
sound like it is trying to work. I took the valve apart and cleaned it
but the step still isn't working. During the trip the step would
retract sometimes while on the road after a few hours, it would also
work intermittently. I realize that replacement parts are available,
but has anybody just replaced the air step with an electric one. I
believe that I can buy a new step cheaper than the parts for the air
step. Has anybody done this. Also would anybody care to guess what part
in the air step is faulty, based on their experience.

thanks

I too had an inoperative air step...I replaced the four bosch solenoids, removed the safety "tape", and after all that, it was just a faulty ground wire from the step in/out solenoids at the step mechanism itself. Works fine now. I did have to re-wire the ground wire, and find a new location to ground it to. For some reason still not known to me, the original ground point no longer is grounded??
Everybody always says check the obvious first...I should have listened.
