I have an 83 PT40 with 6v92. My cooling fan is always on. Has anyone
had any issues with this?

On the rear of your engine, there is a sensor with 2 wires coming from it.
The wires, if removed, will tell the fan to come on. Those wires go to a relay
behind the tag axle mud flap that directs the hydraulics to activate the fan.
I don't believe it would hurt that your fan stays on.

Two things to check. First make sure you do not have your fan
override switch in the on position on the dash, then if it is still
on, your alarmstat on the rear of the engine is bad and needs to be
replaced.

My 83 did not have the overide but i installed one. Looking at the engine on
the left head you will see a brass switch screwed into the head, or i think
it is the head. There will be a air line on the top and bottom of the switch.
This controls the air pressure going to the fan switch. The system uses air
pressure to keep the fan off i guess so if you loose air on the system the fan
will run. You need to check and make sure you have air pressure to the
switch which should be the lower one. The line going to the switch runs along
the
top of the engine to the rear. If you have air on the incoming line you can
put air pressure on the other line and see if the fan shuts off.

Yes, I don't have a fan over switch either. It does have that 'air
switch' on the drivers side head...or actually i think its in a house
near it. Anyway I have air to it and going through it. I can bypass
it and put or to it or just unhook it and it stays running all the
time. It is supposed to cut into fuel economy and horsepower of the
coach if it runs all the time. Definitely won't overheat though.

I don't seem to have any electrical sensors like that and I dont have
a fan overide also...?

I don't have a fan over-ride switch either. Those didn't come standard till
the 84 models.

If you put air pressure on the line going to the front of the engine and the
fan still runs you have a problem with the switch that controls the fan. I
have not been into that part of the system YET. Hopefully someone has been into
that part of the system.
