87 fc driveline reterder wont shut off
Derek H a forum member is standing road side in Anaheim California with
a retired couple in a 87FC. The Owner Carl and Jean said their retarder
came on by its self. fliping the switch on and off corrected the
problem but it happened again 10 miles later and there they sat until
Derek happed on them. They are now waiting on a tow to Dereks
YorbaLinda ranch to nest the night.

Please add your knowledge to this thread so we can offer a collective
welth of information to the new group members.

Check for a sticking Brake Light Switch; Do brake lights operate
normally? Did the retarder by the drivers left knee get bumped to the
set position? (downward); check for a faulty on/off retarder switch.
Check the transmission temperature guage...the retarder is a ZF
internal transmission retarder and it is important not to exceed 230
deg F on the fluid. Did the retarder work properly prior to this
misbehaving episode?

If you drive the FC to CCW in Anaheim, try with the retarder switch
in OFF position and make sure that retarder lever by your left knee
is cylced to the UP (off) position. Good luck and call 573.341.2197
if my post info is confusing.
