I agree but it was never worth only 61 cents. I have firmly believed for
years that our long reigning Liberal governent kept our dollar low to give
our manufacturers a trade edge. Funny how after only two years of a
Conservative Gov't our dollar has gone up. I don't believe the US dollar has
fallen nearly forty cents in relation to the Cdn dollar. I believe it is a
combination of our new gov't taking a 'hands off' approach and some portion
of a falling US dollar.

I tried to use the opposite side as a vent one time. I found that I
fertilized the other island with diesel when I kept the pump on
high. In other words, open two caps and you backwash in stereo.

I pump on the middle setting at the truck pumps. The backwash, if
any, is minimal. I have replaced only one pair of shoes and clothing
in 4.5 years. If you want to live on the edge, pump on high and
listen close to the fill pipe to guess when it will back up and shut
the flow off just in time to avoid a bath. I love doing that. Don't
ask my batting average.

Ron,

I'm not sure anyone has answered your basic question, so here goes - I
am not aware of any of the later models (82 on) with two fuel tanks
for the drive engine. The newer ones with the dual fill pipes both
feed into the same tank.

If you open both caps, and fill from one side, it allows air to expel
faster for faster filling with less backwash out the fill side. BUT,
as Tom said, you can still get overflow out the fill side and out the
vent side also when you reach full.

By the way, when are you going to join us for a Lone Star Birds rally?

Thanks Mike, for your input. I think I have my answer now. I won't run it
completely to the top on a fill up anyway. Unless of course by some magic I run
across a really low priced diesel fuel, which is unlikely these days.

I just got this Bluebird in July of this year and have only had it out about 3
or 4 times on short trips. Its been a busy year for me. Matter of fact I am
leaving to go to Louisiana for a family reunion this week on Wednesday. Won't
be taking the Bird with me this time either.

I do want to make one of those LoneStar Bird Rally's. When is the next one?

feed into the same tank.

If you open both caps, and fill from one side, it allows air to expel
faster for faster filling with less backwash out the fill side. BUT,
as Tom said, you can still get overflow out the fill side and out the
vent side also when you reach full.

The problem is the venting of the fuel tank. The vent is either
inadequate or clogged (or both). The older birds have a 3" fill pipe.
You can insert a 2" schedule 40 plumbing pipe down the fill tube into
the bottom of the fuel tank. These are fairly stiff and won't fall
in. I'd start with an 8' length and see if it sticks out and cut off
the end so that you can still close the cap -- but have the pipe end
just below the filler end. You place the fill nozzle into the plastic
pipe (so the fuel runs into the bottom of the tank) and then the air
isn't trapped and comes out next to the fill pipe.

There are other methods as well -- including installing a new vent or
running a vent tube from the top of the tank to the top part of the
fill tube. Either of these will probably require dropping the fuel
tank, so it's not a job for the feint of heart.

Unfortunately, these work arounds won't work for me. Sometime BB
switched from 3" fill pipes to a 2" (or 2-1/4") fill pipe and it's
too small for the outside diameter of the schedule 40 plumbing pipe
to allow sufficient 'air' room.

I find that about 25% of the time the fuel dispensers don't spit --
but 75% of the time they do. It's also a matter of how much the fuel
foams as it flows into the tank.

The problem is that the fill-tube is much longer than is common on
trucks...

Yes, I agree, that you'd think BB would have solved this problem long
ago.... but it's one of the "quirks" that we have to deal with.

One 300 gallon tank, two inlets. That way you don't have to turn the
coach around. Opening both inlets will allow air to escape, but you
have to watch out that the pump actually turns off when you're full
or you'll just pump through from one side to the other....
