PT36 retarder & other things

Reference using an engine brake and a tranny retarder together, keep in mind
that the engine brake slows the coach by increased engine braking, and the
primary connection between the engine and tires is the input shaft on the
tranny. The tranny retarder slows the coach at the tranny, no additional strain
on the tranny input shaft. Use both and since there is no syncronization (s.p.?)
between the braking forces, the transmission may try to "outrun" the engine that
is trying to brake, resulting in excess strain on the tranny input shaft and
breakage thereof. Simply put, the engine brake does not talk to the tranny
retarder, so they may get in a fight and the tranny input shaft will be the
loser.
Still trying to build a coach up to BB standards, I think I'm losing, but I
have posted some new pics.

I don't know Ernie. It's arranged the same on mine. The Allison Operator's
Manual simply states not to use them together with no expansion on that. I did
operate the bus using both at first until I got my hands on an Operator's
Manual, no more. Maybe one of gurus can offer something.

I wonder why the Allison manual says to not use the Jake and transmission
retarder together? The jake on my coach is exhaust. The tranny retarder is on
the transmission.
