Bosch buzz

Can anyone tell me what would make a bosch relay buzz sometimes when
it should be "turning off"? ...And it doesn't turn off. I've had a
couple do that.. and new ones at that.

Alan,

Occationally , A relay chatters, when shutting down the master
DC disconnect. It is intermittent and I have not found a cure for
this issue.

I replace a relay that chatters. My thought is the relay is getting weak
from lots of use. Has worked so far...the new relay doesn't chatter.

There are a number of different kinds of relays - do you know if the relay you
got has a capacitor across the coil.

Diodes (not a capacitor) are most often used across the coil to provide a
path for current when the current path to the relay is interrupted (i.e.
switched off, coil no longer energized). This allows the coil field to collapse
without the voltage spike that would otherwise be generated. The diode protects
switch or relay contacts and other circuits that may be sensitive to voltage
spikes. Capacitors basically store electricity, diodes direct the current in
just one direction (prevents "feedback").

Bill,

I just got your message. I have the small black bosch/or bosch-like
relays. i don't know if there is a capacitor across the coil or not.
I could tear one apart and see if i needed to. What does the
capacitor do?
