A mileage question?

A mileage question?
I have looked at a few PTs for sale. Last spring I ferried a Band coach
that was an Eagle conversion from Yakama WA to Denton TX. It had a 6V92
with a five speed Allison, same as many BBs. Before departing I filled it
where I could see diesel in the filler tube and did the same thing after the
trip at the TA truck stop in Denton TX. It was cool so I didn't run the
generator and air conditioning until the last day from north of Amarillo to
Denton. It was slow off the line but would roll right along once it
"gathered" speed. The fastest I drove it was 70mph but I usually tried to
move with traffic. With side trips I drove 2063 miles. It took a little
less than 183 gallons to fill it which would be around 11mpg. I have been
told many figures on mpg from the owners some in the 10-11mpg range. Is
this what others with the 6V92/Allison are experiencing?

I can't answer for others (or for a 6V92), but with about 1500 miles so far I'm
around 5MPG with an 8V92/Allison 5-Speed combo.

The engine computer reports an average of 5.2MPG since the computer was
installed, something over 800 engine hours.

Chuck,
In the past two years and 25K miles my overall average is a little
under 6.4 MPG. I have made as much as 7.3 MPG driving (without towed)
from Barstow CA to Texarkana AR, and as low as 5.7 going from Omaha NE
to St George UT, which was (with towed) over Eisenhower and Vail
passes and many lesser passes. I typically do not cruise over 65MPH.
