I tried my best to search the archives and files and links, but didn't
come up with anything. Has anyone ever replaced the muffler on a
Detroit Diesel 8V92? If so where did you get it from, and how much?
Bluebirds price was more than I thought it would be. I've got some
time, so I'm trying to buy smart!

Hi,
I have a 1988 WLWB XXV it has an 8v92, the exhaust pipe ruins over
the front of the engine and out the right side of the rear of the
bus. My muffler is under the battery tray. Some of the newer coaches
have the exhaust out the top left hand rear. I needed a new muffler I
had one custom made by United Muffler Corp., Tony Dacosta was very
helpful. http://www.unitedmuffler.com 519-455-1550

Jim,

Thanks, it sounds like the same muffler (under the battery tray), I
think thats where they are for the 6V92 also. Do you remember what
the muffler cost?

Tom,

I replaced the entire exhaust system on my 85PT40 6V92. The muffler
was an "in stock" item. It was around $200. The entire exhaust system
from Turbo to exhaust tip installed was $1,100. Bluebird wanted
$1,900 for the parts only. Ouch.

Coile's can do ANY repair to our drive train. Overhaul the engine,
transmission, differential and as well as the periherals- air
compressor, fuel pump, turbo, blower, etc. They service all the tour
buses in and around Illinois. Great people, very reasonable.

Tom: Any idea how many degrees exhaust blankets cool the engine bay? I'm
thinking of pulling my exhaust, painting it with Eastwood manifold paint an
covering it. Do exhaust blankets allow or create condensation, under the
blanket that is.

Leroy my understanding is that exhaust wrap does collect condensation
but blankets do not. I have a complete set of blankets on my coach
and it appears to really cut the heat down. Looks nice too and keeps
the engine compartment cleaner (or is it that I clean it often?).

Boy pulling the exhaust is a job I would think. I had the complete
exhaust system from the manifold on coated with porcelain by a firm
here in ny. I wasnt impressed and it was not cheap.
