Potable water filtration system
Howard my manual gives a way to check it. It says "check the smell,
If a faint taste of chlorine is detected it is time for achange. Even
when there is a noticeable taste the bacteria stopping properties
have not been compromised".

I am going to find out more about the filter and what to do about it.
