Ernie,
I should have been more forthcoming. I bought the coach in August
and therefor have not needed the block heater yet. I understand it's
value and will use it when appropriate. I was just kidding around.

Ernie, did you get your water heater thawed out? Let me know if you
need anything, except 85 degrees & sunshine.

OK, I found an answer. Looks like about .9 pounds of salt per gallon
to protect to 20 degrees. That's a lot of salt. Also, too much and
the freezing temp starts going up again.

Ernie,
Me thinks you stayed a we bit too long. That's not as bad as what we did
though. We actually drove our Jeep back from Yuma last week just in time to
enjoy all of this snow and 15 deg temps here in the Puget Sound area. Yuk, yuk,
yuk.
Good luck.

Terry- just took a nice hot shower in my coach. The only thing I need is a

Hmmm, sounds like fun doesn't it. On our way home we hit snow and all, but have
been getting the bus certified , and driving around in blizzard conditions, temp
3deg F, and with the windchill -18 deg F. Also we got another 10 inches of
powder today, that leaves us with almost 30 inches of snow on the ground.
Yup, neither the coach or the generator motors really like this temperature.

I managed to get a new element (Screw-in type) with an adaptor for
4 bolt. I took out the old unit and it sure was blown. There was a
split in the tube and the element was sticking out about 6 inches.
Interestingly it wasn't broken.

Unfortunately, the adapter for the screw-in is too big for the
hole in the tank. It is designed so that the adapter case enters the
hole and the element screws into it. If they reversed the design so
the adapter was on the outside and the flat part fit against the
tank it would have been perfect. I tried to just reverse it, but it
is designed so you can't thread the element in from the wrong side.

I think I can find an element if I keep searching the local
hardware/plumbing supply stores. I can order one from Raritan, but
that's $34 plus shipping and I want it before the weekend, so
shipping is BIG bucks.

I finaly have it working. I did some research and found that a
208/220 volt unit works at about 25% of the rating when hoooked up
to 110. I found a 4500 watt/208 volt unit and installed it. The
heater works fine and gets up to the 120 degree setting in less than
an hour, and that's fine for me.

The only thing I can say is, 'why did they orient the heater in
such a way that it is so easy to see everything but so impossable to
get your hands in there to work'?
