Cat exhaust Leaks

Cat exhaust Leaks
I noticed a slight exhaust noise while underway Sunday, driving
beside a wall. Got to looking under the bus, noticed some of the
metal band clamps that join the sections of exhaust pipes together
are either leaking, or the exhaust pipes themselves are maybe
slipping out of place from under the old bands. I was thinking of
taking the bird to a local automotive exhaust shop, and having the
old bands removed, and everything welded up nicely. There is also a
hanger or two that needs attention.

Also while there, I have heard some talk on the forums about people
removing mufflers for a little more get up and go. We do not have any
type of emissions in Florida, so that would be of no concern. The
noise level is reportedly not too much louder. Has anyone removed the
muffler and seen any difference?

Any thoughts of welding the exhaust VS. New bands?

I am guilty of removing my muffler, and increasing the pipe size to 5" from the
down pipe. I moved the outlet forward so that it is about even with the front
of the gen set. Works well and it's not any louder inside the coach. A little
noisier out side, but that's all good.

Stephen: You might want to phone that exhaust shop before you make a
wasted trip. Most of the big chains (Midas, Meineke, etc.) do not work
on big units. You need to find a big shop with either a pit or one of
those behemouth hoists. You could ask one of the truck dealers where
they send exhaust work. A good shop will have a big bender or at the
very least a selection of large U bends .

I had some leaks in my heads which DD (8v92) took care of I got a
muffler custom made as BB did not havve the part. looking into the
muffler there was not much to it, I would be surpized if my Bird
would move much faster without it. I used a truck repair place to
handle replacing the parts that DD did not. Palm Beac Spring in west

Anyone know the Old Ford #?



NAPA might be more apt to pull up that # than a Sterling #..

When I went looking for the gaskets, I was sent from the Ford dealer
to the Sterling dealer, as Ford no longer handles those parts for the
trucks that used the 3208 Cat engine, unless they still have some of
them in stock from the old days, that division of trucks was sold to
Sterling, at least that is what the old Ford heavy duty truck dealer
told me. Caterpillar does carry them, but I'm not sure what that part
number is. I have no idea what the NAPA dealer will tell you, as I
don't have a part number for them either.
