Engine Question
To all
I have my 91 WLSP 36 now for 11years. I just had a nasty fuel leak fixed. It
was acrack in an injector fuel line, so naturally, fuel would spray all over the
engine, yet it kept on running as if nothibg is wrong. Cat 3208 TA, a tough one
indeed. Now my BIG Question: Has anyone ever dropped the Cat 3208 out of a
Wanderlodge so that the engine could be worked on? Reason is, I have one small
leak in the exhaust manifold gasket, and the Cat mechanic could not loosen the
bolts at the exhaust. He said if they break off, we are in deep trouble. He
would need to pull the head and then get the old bolts out etc. How much trouble
and time would it be to just drop the engine and then have it worked over? Jeff,
Mike, Curt, Randy, Don, John,.....???

Engine Question
Glad it didn't catch fire. There are two 5/16" x 18 bolts that secure the
injection pump to the block, they are at the back of the pump and easy to
access, generally. They were loose on my toter home and I went through a period
of cracking injection lines every 150 hours or so. It got real old. I still
carry a full set of lines in both my 3208 rigs and the necessary wrenches to do
the job. It's never easy to pull the engine out of chassis. The proper reverse
rotation drill bit will allow removal of any broken fastener. May require a
angle head drill motor to access. Hit the head of the bolt with an air chisel
using a blunt drift tool before trying to turn it. The shock on the bolt will
usually allow removal.
Sounds like the local Cat wrench is a little gun shy. They do hate to work on
motor homes.
