Good Morning all........Need a little advise please

I will be leaving sunny Florida a week from today so I pulled the bird
out of the building and noticed oil on the plywood( I keep the tires
off the concreat on plywood)the oil spot was about the size of a small
plate....Now you all can probably quess the question....

Can I get back to Wisconsin (1500 miles ) or do I need to address the
situation NOW!..........Of course I don;t want to be left on the road
so I pretty much figure I need to find someone in the Ocala Fl. area to
do the repair....By the way the oil is comming down the curb side
inside of the inside dual............Thank again guys.......DAN SAARI

Dan,
Sounds like an axel seal is leaking. The brake shoes are most likely
saturated in oil. Do not drive the 1,500 miles without correcting the
problem. I just had the same problem but it was the tag axel. Glad the
shop noticed it before I took off on a 5,000 mile test drive. Good luck.

Yep Dan, its wheel seal time. Since you probably don't
know how fast it leaks, pretty risky to drive 1500
miles. It also has most certainly soaked the brake
shoes, so you've lost your brakes on that wheel. Not a
real expensive problem, cost about $300 on my '87 PT40
to do the one leaker, including brake shoes.

Hi Dan
This happened to us last summer.
My thought,if it leaks sitting still,it really is going to leak driving down
the road.
My vote is fix it before you take off.

Dan,

If it does indeed need new shoes, save yourself
some headache and replace the brake drum at
the same time. The new shoes will seat properly
on the new drum. Don't ask how I know!
