80FC33 cruise control options
Has anyone experimented with different options for the old vacuum type
cruise controls on the older birds? Mine is missing the drive shaft
magnets and I don't know if it works beyond that. I would like to
replace it and have been informed of one type. Any other replacements
out there worth investigation at a 'not to terrible' price? ALso if you
have an old vacuum system or the magnet pickups or info on them, please
let me know.....

That's ironic, the original magnets work great for my King Cruise or what ever.

The magnets are available from NAPA. For a couple of dollars it is a
cheep test. I always wrap a nylon tie around them and do not just rely
on the sticky backing.

The magnets are a hardware store item. 1/4" square by 1/8" thick will be fine.
Mount 180 degrees apart in line with pick up coil. Attach to drive shaft with
epoxy and secure with common wire tie. It's ok to use two wire ties if one long
enough isn't available. The pick up coil should be 1/4" away from the shaft.
If not enough signal is evident, place magnets 90 degrees apart on drive shaft.
My Cruise King kit came with 4 magnets but I tried using the original two
magnets and original pick up coil, works fine. A word of caution regarding the
Cruise King, it requies a dedicated 20 amp circuit.
