Hi Rick,

Have you called several Allison dealers/service centers and asked for their
advice? Maybe you could consider calling a mobile service mechanic, if there
is no other choice other than towing. Perhaps the Allison dealer in your
area could make a recommendation regarding a mobile mechanic. Just some
thoughts....

update on Do Not Shift Light.
I just replaced the tachometer sending unit and tang drive. This fixed
the problem with the tachometer from jumping from 1000 rpm to 2200 rpm.
Was hoping this was the problem with the do not shift light. Light
still on and back to asking questions. Does anyone have any other ideas
before i have to have it towed into a repair shop 100 miles away.

Kevin, I have been talking to Allison and several of the dealers. I
have did everything they have told me to do. I did talk to one that
said they would send someone out. They are going to charge me $350.00
for service call plus $75.00 labor and driving time also. If they
don't have the right parts they will have to come back out again.
Might have to go that way because we are full timing it right now and
need to find a place to stay if they tow it in.

Not an outrageous price from what I've heard from many
others.

Perhaps a repeat; however, if you do have it towed,
ensure the drive axle is either disconnected, the
drive wheels on a tow dolly, or towed with drive
wheels not touching road, to prohibit turning the
drive train - you would not want damage/further
damage.

Best of luck,

Is there a diagnostic plug for the transmission? Can it be diagnosed
with an OBD code reader? If so, it may be worth purchasing a reader
and getting the diagnostic codes. You should be able to pick up a
code reader from auto parts store for under $200. Some code readers
allow you to reset the computer, perhaps that is all that is needed.

Kerry,
Good thought. Parts stores here loan out the reader if you leave a small
deposit.
