Anyone have suggestion for best price on Microphor toilet compressor.

Seems my teflon seals are gone and I understand there isn't a repair
kit. So gonna bite the bullet and actually buy another.

I have a call into Microphor, but so far their customer service folks
haven't called me back. Other suggestions welcomed.

Hi Paul,

Can't tell you where to find a replacement.
However, I'd suggest you consider having the air
"plumbing" re-done to permit all air compressors to
perform all air functions to avoid the repeat failure
trap. Many of us have done it and are happy with the
results.

In the meantime, keep your old 12V compressor(s) in
the event someone bites the bullet and decides to
purchase the minimum order for replacement teflon
seal/piston cup(s). I looked into it a year or two
ago and found the minimum was 1M of the items for
about $1,000. Sounded like a reasonable investment
for some firm to make to refurbish the little devils,
but I'm still waiting with a box of the otherwise
perfect 12V compressors.

John,
"plumbing" re-done to permit all air compressors to
perform all air functions to avoid the repeat failure
trap...

Great idea. I've put that on my Bird work-item list. Our coach axillary
and toilet compressors are stacked one above the other in a bay. Should
make the modification easier.

Hi Curt,

The mod requires a couple of check valves, "T's,"
and combination regulator/meters, a bit of
planning/thinking and you'll be in business. A common
modification diagram floating around, only adds engine
and 110V compressor air to toilet, and keeps the
existing 12V air as is, rather than create an "all for
all" system; therefore, I recommend first drawing your
layout on paper. Note the "plumbing location" of the
current microphor pressure regulator(s) as many have
been moved, some have two, etc. Last, don't overlook
air driven sewer-dump valves in the planning.

Doubt you'll have to physically move anything, but
if you do, consider re-locating the reserve air tank
moisture drain-line for more convenient access than
original. Add a master "on/off" switch close to the
12V compressor, if the original did not come with one,
and plumb/set the 12V compressor to be the compressor
of last resort (to preserve it). You already have the
ability to shut off the 110V compressor from the dash.

Hi John,
Thank you for the information. I'll save it for when I get to that
project. I added the on/off switch for the 12v compressor. Actually I
believe I have two switches now. One is in the bay by the compressor and
the other one that I added is inside of the coach for easy access.

Hi Curt,

As Yahoo doesn't permit attachments, I've send a
picture of the Thomas Compressor unit manufactured in
Sheboygan WI direct (to Curt). For other Forum
members, the unit BB installed on the 2000LXi, and
many others I've seen around that model year, is Model
No 405ADC38/12F. I believe BB sold them for about
$200 in 2005 so I'm confused by the pricing and Model
shown below.

Microphor compressor needed
Hi John,

The compressor in our Bird looks completely different than in your
picture. The unit we have is labeled a Microphor Model 5000. It looks
just like a 120V pancake compressor, only it's 12V. A new unit costs
$655. Looks like the unit you have would be the way to go as long as it
supplies enough air.
