Found a FC35RB for sale in Wi.
While driving around yesterday I saw a BlueBird for sale near Adell
Wi., Owner says its a 83, he installed a Cummings motor and a different
Allison trans., has the same horse power as the Cat but says this motor
works much better in it. He had to push the center of the frontend out
about 4 inches to make it fit and there is alot more room under the dog
house. Very nice guy but could not show me the inside because he was
leaving for a wedding, it looks to be in OK shape but not great. Just
thought someone here might be interested in the fact it had a different
motor.

Checked it out, nice install, 5.9 250 hp electronic 2000 model year, 600 series
Allison, claims 10 mpg and better power than Cat. Too bad he wants low 50s for
it. I suggested he might have a little resistance for that figure. Needs paint
bad, other wise is OK.

Mike

did you happen to drive it?

gears???

i have a 2??HP p pump cummins in a 2000 tc at my house with a 545
behind it..I have thought that a 5.9 with the right stuff( head
redone with studs and cam and lower compression and right setup
pump and turbo)
would be a killer mtr for our buses..with factory BB monts and rad
and it has intercooler and the
ugley 4-6" extention on the ft...EASY R$R...
will the 545 stuff on the motor hook to the 643?????

somebody go drive that bus..... I want to know the preformance
aspect.....-

woody at ft bragg nc 81 fc with 444 gears and more stuff trying to
get it down the road .......

Hey Guys,

Wanderlodges are a very heavy bus for the 5.9 Cummins. Remember that
is the same engine as you find in the new Dodge Pick-up trucks.

Also, the 545 Allison is basically a GMC turbo 400 transmission. It
has no locking torque converter, so you will loose power to slippage
down the road.

I owned a 5.9 cummins / 545 Allison for a while. Nice engine for an
empty school bus doing local driving. I would be worried about a
fully loaded Wanderlodge going cross country!

Cummins made a bigger 8.3 liter (straight 6 cyl) engine. That would
probably do fantastic in a Wanderlodge! Probably would get much
better mileage than our old 3208 cats.

You got a 2000 year model, same as the geezer used. I'd want the 6 speed but at
the very least you need to use the 600 series. The 540 ain't gonna get it. He
swears that it gets 10, that's enough to justify doing it even if it ain't as
strong.
