83 FC - Is my engine 225 or 250 horse?
Hello Everyone,

I'm a new owner of an 83' FC-35, manufactured in July of that year.
How do I tell if the engine is a 225 or 250 horse turbo 3208?

I was told that the coaches built in the later months in 83' had 250
horse engines from the factory.

I have looked the engine over, read through my box of manuals, and
checked every ID plate on the vehicle. No record anywhere.

Even the previous owner had no idea!

Does the Bluebird factory provide you with a build sheet if you
request it?

Any help is always appreciated!

I also have an '83 mine was built in oct '82 and titled as an '83.
Mine is a 225HP it should be on the head covers, passenger side rear
of the cover mine also has the max RPM 2600 on it. As I understand it
they switched to 250HP late in '83 only the last 10 or 20 units of
the year, or something like that. It's a good bet it's a 225HP, but
who knows some have been changed out, and if that has happened most
likely it's a 250HP. I know it makes a diffrence on it parts you will
need to buy. Maybe someone here knows how to look at them to tell the
diffrence.

My 83 was built in August of 82, so it would of had the 225hp cat
originally. I was told it has a rebuilt 250 hp cat in it when I got
it in 2004. Does anyone know how to tell which engine it is?

Read the valve cover tag. Arrangement number is everything on a Cat. If that
is missing you need to find the stamped numbers on the pump. That can be hard
to decipher but it is possible to learn the hp of the engine from that info. I
hope you have a valve cover tag.

Phil when you open the doghouse, look down on the right valve cover
at the rear and you should see a stick on label about 4" long that
lists the arrangement number, horsepower etc.

Hi Tom,

I have that sticker on my motor, but it gives ratings and stats on 4
different engines available in 03 from 170 to 250 HP. It does not say
specifically which one I have. All it tells me about my motor is that
it was manufactured in 82. Anywhere else I can look?

83 FC - Is my engine 225 or 250 horse?
Hello Everyone,

I was going through my box of records and came across a "Service Parts
Sheet" for my 83' FC-35.

It lists the engine as a 3208TA W/L. The serial No has a "Z" in it.

It also has a 4.89 axle ratio.

Does this help me to determine if I have a 225 or 250? I need to
start ordering parts and it sure would be helpful!

My 83' was built in the later part of the year. I'm hoping it is
among the last 10 - 20 that came out with the 250 version.

Does anybody know?

Phil - did you ever find out what engine you have in your 83?

Andy

83 FC - Is my engine 225 or 250 horse?
If you have the service parts sheet, then you should have the
serial# and the arrangement# on the sheet. I say 'should' because
you will want to verify this information on the valve cover tags as
Mike mentioned.

There's a tag on each valve cover. They each have different
information, but this is the only place I know of to verify the
horsepower.

Parts-wise, I don't believe there's much difference between the 225
and 250. What I 'heard' (unverified) is that the turbo was
introduced at 225 because of the torque converter from the 210
engine. Once the stock of old torque converters was used up, the
horsepower was ramped up to 250.

I dunno, wasn't there.

Like Mike said, you can describe your engine 'til you're blue in the
face and when you're done, the guy at CAT will say, "what's the
arrangement number?"

83 FC - Is my engine 225 or 250 horse?
I have not checked mine out yet to tell which engine it might be. I
know it came from the factory with a 225hp, but was told it was
replaced with a rebuilt 250hp, but don't have any documentation on
it. Getting it out of storage tonight for the summer so now I will
have it at the house to play with and try to figure these things
out. Just ordered a new back up camera system from rvcams.com, so
that will be this weekends project.
