Windshield wipers on 1990 36 SP
Hi all. I am sitting in office park on the side of the road in Raleigh
NC on the way home from a weeklong trip. I can't get the wipers on, I
don't recall if I have even tried to use them since I bought the coach
in January. I checked the fuses in the front outside access panel,
they check good. Any other ideas. Looks like we may overnite here if
the rain does not let up.
Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave
I am trying to recall, but I believe you have two switches, one is the speed
for the motor or mist control
and may be wired to shut off the wipers completely and of course the
regular switch that controls it normally.

Good luck

Fred,
Thanks for the quick reply. There is a wiper delay rotary switch on
the dash and then the wiper controls on the turn signal stalk. I have
fiddled with both and get no results in any combination.

The rain is getting worse, it looks like we may be here tonight and
head home in the morning, wife and daughter have already hit the sack,
I am going to take the pup out for a stroll in the monsoon and brew a
cup of coffee and watch the late news.

Thanks again,
Dave

Dave:

Your turn signal lever on the steering coloumn has a twist switch
on it to turn on your wipers. There are four positions, Intermittent,
off, low and high. There is also a Rheostat on the dash lower panel
on the right side that is called a Wiper Relay. If that is turned
all the way to the low end, it might not come on at all. Check those
before you start worrying about fuses and relays.

If you put Rain-X (available at auto parts stores) on your windshield,
you can drive without wipers. In fact, most of the time, I prefer to
depend on the Rain-X and not wipers.
I learned this after my wipers failed and I needed to get home. I
tied a rope from wiper to wiper and then from each wiper in thru the
wing windows, tying the tends together. My passenger than pulled the
rope back and forth, operating the wipers until the rain stopped.
With the Rain-X you can avoid the human wiper motor.

Just an update. We waited out the rain til about 1:00am and headed on
home to Greensboro with no problem. I had used Rainex on the
windshield and and everything was fine until we got into hard rain in
the dark. The glare on the windshield from oncoming traffic just did
not make driving safe. We got the coach unloaded and put away today, I
will be troubleshooting the wipers this week. If anyone has any
suggestions, I am all ears.

Bruce, thanks for the generous offer, if it had not been such a late
hour, I had your number and would have called.

Thanks for all the replies,
Dave
