Safe-T-Plus
Folks,

I'm considering having a Safe-T-Plus installed on my
Blue Bird LXi. I'll be in Las Vegas and found that there
are a couple of Safe-T-Plus dealer/installers in that area.
Do any of you have experience with either of the following:

Double Eagle, 6220 Dodd St, Las Vegas, Nv

or

Wheeler's Las Vegas RV, 13175 Las Vegas Blvd, Las Vegas, NV

or

Findlay RV Center Inc, 4530 Boulder Hwy, Las Vegas, NV

Any other recommendations are very much appreciated.

Safe-T-Plus
Don't do it. It is unnecessary if your suspension and steering is working
properly. It only works against your OEM system. Go to the Michelin site and
view the video on tire blow outs.

David,

If you are going to do anything, install the Blue Ox Tru Center. My Bird
had the Safe=T-Plus. When traveling in a crosswind or high crowned highway,
you had the added pressure of the Safe-T-Plus to hold - Very Tiring. The
Tru-Center is basically an adjustable Safe-T-Plus, designed by the same
person. With it, you push a switch, move the wheel to where you want the new
center to be, and no more pressure to hold. Makes long trips in the wind
very easy. I would consider it for ANY coach.

David if your suspension is correctly aligned and the shocks are
good, and the ride heights are correct front to back you should have
no need for any steering assist. What the assists accomplish is to
put additional stress on your steering system, in the case of the
true center up to 270#. I have a hard time believing the true
centers ads that claim " Extends the life of the front-end parts up
to 70%; front tires up to 30%." I have no road wander with either of
my BB although I believe the PT40 with its additional weight tracks
even better then the Forward control.

If you decide to put one on, make sure the installer
takes the time to get it right, and you should test
drive it before you pay them. If the steering isn't
perfectly centered when they install it, your coach
won't ever track straight.

Thanks everyone for your input. I'm familiar with the
typical hydraulic steering stabilizers used on motorcycles
and thought that the safe-t-plus was basically the same; i.e,
simply a horizontally mounted shock absorber designed to
lessen the abrupt forces experienced when driving thru
gusty winds, etc. From the discussion thus far, it appears that
the safe-t-plus always exerts a centering force, unlike a
shock which will dampen the initial force but once displaced
it will not provide any additional centering force. Is this
correct?

The blue ox true center with it's active controls is a little
less appealing to me. I, personally, do not want anything
active, besides myself, controlling my steering. The possibility
of a failure and the consequences are of concern.

My ride height, alignment, tires, and shocks are all spot
on. I'm only looking for improvement in gusty wind situations
and the like.

Any other ideas are more than welcome.

I have the Howard Power steering on my coach. I used it when I first
purchased the coach and haven't used it since. New shocks, an alignment really
make
a difference. Ernie-83pt40 in louisiana

Are you pulling a toad? If so, is it tracking well and aligned?

It seems to me my toad helps stabilize my coach in the gusty
conditions. Having 5,000 pounds on the rear, tracking straight
along in relatively clean air seems to keep the wagging to a
minimum. It even seems to dampen the occasional momentary lapses by
the distracted driver...

Safe-T-Plus
I installed a Blu-Ox Tru-Cnter on my '99 LX and it works very well.
I had the Saf-T-Plus on a previous SOB and it was ok, but did not
offer the features of the Tru-Center. You may want to consider it.
