transmission oil cooler
does anyone have or has anyone ever installed a oil cooler on a 83fcrb
model bird. if so where did you install it and did you get the benefit
from it that you expected. i have a few leaks in the heat exchangers
under the couch and under the bed so i turned off the valves that feed
this system and now i have a heat problem. what are my options if i
leave this system isolated. transmission temp is running about 200 and
above. have not run it for long at this temp.

The oil filters are attached to the oil cooler, the coolant hoses that feed it
are to be changed annually. You should get those under seat heater cores fixed
up as leaving the coolant system dysfunctional is a real bad thing. Sounds like
you would do well to flush the whole thing out and refresh the system. 50/50
distilled water/antifreeze. I personally don't pay extra for the "extended
life" product. Do check the pH of the system with sample sticks available at
Napa.
