I have several questions about the TV in my 1983 FC-35.
the TV screen comes on no rear picture, but the previous owner
installed a 5" tv on the dash and the back up camera works fine on
this TV.
Is the silver box located above the drivers seat the actual TV? when i
move some on the knobs i see movement on the TV sreen ( the orginal TV
screen)verical, contrast etc.
has anyone had one of these units repaired?
can i installed another TV in place of the orginal and get rid of the
silver box.?
is there an indicator that shows the TV antenna is rotating?
does the CB radio run through the silver box?
how is the silver box mounted, mine is setting loose on the shelf.
That for all the help I know I will get, this is a great site and you
folks have a lot of knowledge

"The silver box" is part of the electronics for the Cathode Ray tube
mounted over the front of the driver. PMMI took apart a TV set and
put part of it in the "Silver Box" and part in the overhead in front
of the driver. There is really not enough room to replace the TV
screen with a TV so I made a cherry cabinet mounted on too of the dog
house for mine. I repaired mine and it works fine now.

Years ago, when we had our 84 35fC, we set a color tv on the doghouse.
Something happened to the color in that set.Is there any electrical field that
may
have interfered with the color on that tv- or was it the tv's time to go
south? Ernie-83pt40 in louisiana

A TV on the doghouse can use the antenna connection at the co-pilot's
feet.

The "silver box" is the TV electronics for the backup monitor, a
Toshiba AC/DC color TV is split in two for the installation. If the
TV still works properly, and they're pretty durable, it makes an
excellent backup monitor. One issue with these monitor sets is the
original RCA Vidicron-tube camera, not very good at this age. The
monitor is color, you can use it with a color camera, the problem
becomes reversing the video in the TV to accomodate a new-style
camera. This is easily accomplished by reversing the red and blue
wire in the four-wire connector in the tuner-box/siver-box, just
reversing the wires shouldn't take more than 15minutes.

Not a real scientific answer, but I believe mine is turning because the
signal (picture) gets better (or worse) as you hold down the "rotate" rocker
switch.

I would guess that if your TV picture never changes (try different
channels), the element inside the dome isn't rotating like it is supposed to.
I guess
you could take the darn thing apart, and look inside the dome while someone
works the switch.

Have fun...I hear that the antennas are still available. Check the archives.
