1980 33' Newbie with Questions and a funny story.
I am a new owner of a 1980 33'. Fairfax, VA
With loads of questions. Would love to hear from anyone. 1. I have a Redline Motor Generator in the front pass. side storage. It appears to not be working. It has power cord that is plugged into it. After being repaired will the power cord power any of the outlets? 2. In front of the pass. front seat is a red switch. It pulls 15 amps. But I have no idea what it runs. Help? 3. The blowers for each of the heaters do not work. Front sofa, dining area, and bedroom. These are the ones that run off engine heat. Any idea where the fuse is for these? 4. I had no hot water in the shower. Found the balance valve stuck. Can I work it with some WD40 a little and replace or should I just replace the balance valve. 5. I have an outlet under the kitchen sink labeled "Ice Maker Only." But the Ice Maker is not plugged into it. 6. My gas gauge works great except when I switch to diesel. Then it pegs to Empty like it is shorted. It is not the sending unit. Other most likely causes? Now for my funny story. First I have never driven a BlueBird before this trip. I bought the Bird from an individual in Chicago. Flew to Chicago and drove 750 miles to Fairfax, VA. About 150 miles into the trip it was snowing and raining hard. I decided to make a stop to get gas and rest. As I was waiting in line to get gas the air horn would start to blow ever so lightly. I would tap the horn button, turn of the engine, and bang on the dash. After a few minutes it stopped blowing. I was so embarrassed I went to a different gas station. Once again as I was waiting in line at a truck stop to get gas, I could hear the air horn blowing again, sometimes softly, other times full blow. Finally after several minutes it would stop. So I figured it was a rain related short. About 650 miles in the trip my legs were getting cramped so I tried to stretch them when I was surprised with a full blow from the air horn. That's when I found the Air Horn Valve on the floor. My short was in my leg. |

I can't help with the questions. But I have felt dumb before. I had the

I can only answer a couple of these, but here goes: On my '83, the red switch in front of the passenger seat runs the block heater (keeps the water in the block warm in the winter). You should have a thermostat next to the side door for the engine heat. Make sure that's turned on. there are also switches that power the fans and speed next to the registers, that also need to be switched. I can't tell you where the fuse is... I have a "Winter/Summer" switch overhead at the drivers seat, the
switch must be in the WINTER position for the chassis heating fans to be functional. Also, the thermostat on the wall for chasis heat must be calling for heat. 1980 33' Newbie with Questions and a funny story.
I will try to answer a few of the questions, But your 80 is a little
different than my 88 FC , Redline is before an inverter was used. It may be better to investigate replacing with a later model DC/AC inverter. The switch in the passenger area may be the engine block heater. The ice maker is plugged into an outlet that is powered by the Redline Generator or an inverter to make more ice and keep it cold when not using shore power or when driving on the road. The shower is like the shower in your home. Take it apart, clean it an lubricate with silicone grease. I do not think WD40 is good for the rubber seals. The engine heaters in our WL work as Jay Darst descibed. In addition, we
