Does anybody know if there is a way to overide the transmission do not
shift light. The transmission will not shift. I am sure the problem is electrical. I am parked in a place that a tow truck can't get to. I just need to be able to back up about 100'. Thanks for any help. Joe Blankenship 1990 WB40 La Conner, Wa |

Joe,
As you have now discovered, the "do not shift" is really a "you can not shift" light! First thing to check is to make sure the coach has good 12v power. Check the dash gauges. If your batteries are run down below 12v, that may be the problem. When I lost the alternators, the batteries ran down and the do not shift light came on. Jumped it to start the gen set and made it home on gen set/battery chargers. I would try some of the test like Leroy said with someone in the
drivers seat looking at the light. when it goes off you will have a clue to the connection that has issue. That way it wont end up a now and again problem. A shop may just check and poke at everything untill bychance it works. always good to learn the real cause. I would think it easier and less bucks to find a mobile tec to look it over than have it towed. the allison computer is in the bay under the driver ( in the 94) there are plugs and test ports under the shift console in the cockpit and there is a converter modual between the atec and ddec some place that could have issue with voltage + or ground. grounds are my first review. I often run a cable from the battery - to various locations to add a ground and bypass a weak one. I always wondered if the retarder making the brake light glow could cause an issue with the Allison computer? Good luck, I am sure you will find it without a tow and be better learned on the systems while you search Greg94ptCa --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, Leroy Eckert > > Cycle the rear start switch and place in the front start position. If my front rear start selector is not just right it will give me a do not shift light. I do not have a drawing for the tranny but if it's not the rear start selector it's probably a ground related to a the speed sensor. Seems like I remember a post a long while back with the same symptom. Maybe the one who had the problem will talk. > Leroy Eckert > 1990 WB-40 Smoke N Mirrors > Dahlonega, GA > Royale Conversion > > --- On Thu, 10/9/08, joedana0502 > From: joedana0502 > Subject: [WanderlodgeForum] Transmission Red Light > To: WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com > Date: Thursday, October 9, 2008, 3:16 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > Does anybody know if there is a way to overide the transmission do not > > shift light. There should be a by pass code for that problem in the files section. It
included the "how to." I did find out that something is wrong with the rear starter switch. It will not start at all from the rear. I will tear into that switch and see what I can find wrong. Again thank for all the help. Maybe it is something to do with Neutral safety switch? the start
terminal runs from the key to that NSS then to the starter relay then to the starter solenoid. the Neutral safety switch proves issue with other things like high idle and retarder functions. the rear switch orange=power pink=ign purple=start. I guess the switch that Leroy spoke of has a function to not allow the Allison to be shifted when the bus is started from the rear. Do you see the switch Leroy spoke of that makes the choice front or rear? even the front ign runs back to that switch. I found the 20 amp fuse/brakers for the ig behind the bumper. I had that happen to me earlier this year. Havent been to a dealer to get it checked, but thats on the list of things I need to get looked at before my next trip. You should have some flashing lights by the check trans sw if its like my '87 PT40. If you turn on the ignition and you _dont_ get the 'do not shift light' AND the trans error light for a few seconds then you have a burnt out bulb. You'll need to find the code and go from there. I replaced mine with a LED from ratshack... The plug for the trans is on the passenger side of the trans on mine, just about even with the charger compartment. YMMV. You can try 'exercising' the plug and see if that work, or check voltages there. I attached a copy of the code chart, hope it helps... /Joe joedana0502 wrote: > > > Does anybody know if there is a way to overide the transmission do not > shift light.
