A new problem for this group to ponder
Hello everyone,
I experienced a new "issue" on our way home from Alabama after taking 20 laps behind the wheel of a Nascar race car at Talladega. What a blast! Here's the new problem. I had used the cruise control all day and also had the retarder switch on (but not using). I came to a stop at an intersection and when I applied the brakes my engine revved to 1000 RPM's (above the typical 550 RPM's when stopping & off the accelerator). I took my foot off the brake, engine kicks down back to 550 rpm's (normal). I applied the brake again, engine kicked back up to 1000 rpm's. Very very strange. I had this happen a few times, one time getting up to 1500 RPM's when trying to stop the coach which was a chore and very scary to think the coach wouldn't stop. I put the coach in neutral when applying the brake, didn't stop the high RPM's while having the coach brake applied. After being back underway, before the next stop, I switched the cruise to off and the retarder to off. Coming to my next stop the coach braked normally until I got home. Yesterday, I went to move the coach, and it did the exact same thing with cruise and retarder off. Apply the brakes, engine revs to 1000 rpm's whether the coach is in reverse, drive or neutral. This is probably not an easy fix, but would appreciate any collective direction or thoughts on the matter. Thank you in advance!! Drew May Conway, AR '88 WB40 You rock. This may sound really stupid. I had a very similar problem but did not go through the sequence of events you have.
How big are your shoes?? I drive with a sock on my right foot to prevent my shoe from hitting the accelerator while braking. I am not spoofing. Leroy Eckert 1990 WB-40 Smoke N Mirrors Dahlonega, GA Royale Conversion Drew May

Leroy,
Size 11. I actually thought of the same thing, but made sure the carpet, my shoes, etc. were not pushing down on both at the same time. It was my first thought. Drew 88WB40 Leroy Eckert

A new problem for this group to ponder
Hi Drew:
The exhaust port on the inversion valve is sticking or the double check valve is sticking, either one will give you much the same symptoms. Both of those valve are located on the curb side rear under the grill hatch. Need a can of 3 in 1 oil or fish oil, remove the input air line and put a few drops of air in the line, re connect, build the air and cycle the system. Do this to both valves. It should take care of the problem. Sorry this needs to read: put a few drops of oil in the line then re
connect the air line, start the engine to build air in the system and cycle the system. A new problem for this group to ponder
If I asked "how big are your feet?" Ernie and Mike would put me on
restrictive post. just aint fair. Do you have an M&G toad suplemental braking system? Or any mods of the sort? I wonder what signals the cruise to kick off when the brakes are applied? I wonder if it has somthing to do with 'fast idle' and brake light signal kicking in a false fast idle? If you apply the brakes while in Allison "N" can you get the 1000R responce? Nope, we do not have any supplemental braking systems or any other modifications. Yes, if I apply the brakes in Allison "N" I still get the same response of revving to 1000 rpm's. I'm going to take Ralph's suggestion and diagram this weekend to try and solve the problem. Once I've gotten to it, I'll give the group an update on resolution.
Thanks again for all of the help! Gregory OConnor

Greg,
I just installed an M&G brake system on my 88 WBWL XXV did not think that it would affect anything but possibly if air leak that the brakes would not come off! what were you thinking that the M&G might do?
