EMS HW 50C Install
I haven't gotten mine installed yet... but I notice that the
inverters (I have two) have a 'hum' to them that's noticeable when it's very quiet. Pete Masterson aeonix1@... EMS HW 50C Install
Has anyone completed the surge protector install yet? If so, is it noisy? I
did and it is, about like a cheap fluorescent fixture. A couple of days ago I called Progressive Industries tech support and was told to call Robert at his cel number. I asked Robert if the unit was noisy as I was considering installing it near my head in the bedroom. He said that it wasn't noisy at all. Just wondering if others have experienced this or maybe I have a problem with this unit. Dick Hayden - '87 PT 38 - Lake Stevens, WA [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |

EMS HW 50C Install
I have not installed mine yet, but I am very interested in this
thread. If it is a 'hummer' then I will install it near the transfer switch, if not, I would install it in the closet near the breaker panel. EMS HW 50C Install
I did the install on the incoming shore power cable just prior to the
first transfer switch, in the outside compartment where my invertor and transfer switches are located. I am only wired for shore power on the EMS50C, not generator nor invertor. I installed this way due to space and ease of install. I have only tested on a step down to 110 volt 15 amp connection, not 30 Amp nor 50 Amp. I'll test that the 2nd week of April when I move the coach. As wired and on 15 amp connection, the surge protector does make the noise you describe. It is virtually identical to the noise each of the transfer switches make. On very quiet nights when on electrical hookups, I occasionaly heard the transfer switches "hum" in the past from inside the coach (the power compartment is below the bedroom floor). We run a seperate smart charger "truecharge 40" that is silent except when the cooling fan cycles on, and we can hear that fan inside the coach also. We normally have the invertor turned off (it also hums when energized). I would not want the surge supressor inside the bedroom without a sound deadening blanket or pad between the unit and the bed. Did you install it in a cabinet in the bedroom? If so, do you have space for a sound deadening pad in the cabinet the unit is installed in? EMS HW 50C Install
Gardner,
The AC load center on our old '81FC was in the clothes closet on the curb side. I think I would have located the unit under the dinette seat and used a little more wire if we still had that coach. EMS HW 50C Install
Pete,
We boondock so we don't leave the inverter on when we are sleeping, although, I understand why you have to leave them on. This noise is similar but it is much nearer to my head. I tried putting some foam under the unit but that didn't help. I think that I would need a lot of space to completely isolate the unit properly. Maybe its just something we will get used to.
