CrossFires Dual tire equalization system? Pros, cons?
Howdy.
Our mechanic suggested that we use Dual Dynamics' CrossFire dual tire equalization system on our Wanderlodge dualies. Here is the marketspeak on this product: "How Crossfire Works Crossfire is a pressure equalizing and monitoring valve that is mounted between dual tires. It bolts easily to the lug, hub cap, or drive axle end. Properly mounted, air freely flows from one tire to the other, maintaining equal tire pressure and load distribution." Do you use this product on your RV? Any recommendations for it? Comments, pro or con are requested. Thanks, Liz Pearce 1993 WL, currently in Cheyenne, WY |

What happens to the air press in the good tire when the other tire
goes flat? I just bought a air chuck at Nappa that will clip on the stem and hold the valve down to air up. Most of the clip ons require you to remove the valve guts and the chuck does not self close when removed. Have them on my bus and work trucks. If one dual goes flat, the
Crossfire cuts off the air to the other tire after 10 psi loss. Bob Lawrence 84 PT36 Tacoma, Wa. > > What happens to the air press in the good tire when the other tire > goes flat? > Greg 94pt w/ Irish self check valves stems |

Liz:
I have used them on my 92 since I've owned it. They were installed by the previous owner. I replaced one unit when the guage quit working and I have another now that is not working correctly, but this is over a period of several years. The unit assures you of equal pressure in the pairs of tires on the drive axle and eliminates the chance that the inside dual is low on air and thus creating a blow-out. I believe that the factory will replace the units not working correctly. R.E. CrossFires Dual tire equalization system? Pros, cons?
Jack,
My 85PT40 came equipped with them, courtesy of Wallace Craig. They make checking tire pressure with a guage a piece of cake. Both tire are inflated to proper pressure if you have to add air. Pressure is equalized if you develop a slow leak in one tire, giving you time to get repairs. If you have a sudden blowout on one tire, a check valve prevents loss of pressure in the other tire. The only thing I would suggest is keeping an eye on tire repair persons to make sure the hoses and brackets are removed and replaced properly and without damage. ---I have "crossfires on my 90SP36 and am very happy with them...a
quick look at the color shows status. No problems in two years. They come in various pressure ratings, so you'll need to buy the appropriate model for your tires. Price $67.95 (each) plus shipping (and tax if applicable) --- you need 2. Is it possible to check the pressure with a gauge or add air without
removing the Crossfire? I have never seen these in person. Thanks Scott Forman 82 FC35RB Memphis --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "Howard O.
