Headlight Mod starting point
I have a diagram, "Diagram Master Chassis" "1987 with
ZF trans FC" dated 9/87, Diagram 1259514, with Circle "E" appended. Circle E is a headlight modification starting at "CCN 8720" which I belive may be Coach Chassis Number. Whether the PT's, Sp's, and FC's with other arrangements have the relays I do not know, but I would believe these relays would be in all that followed September 1987. Bob, 87FC35, Greenville, SC |

Curt, Who beside Bluebird would go to the trouble to
draw a schmatic with the relays I can see drawn? Or, do you mean for PT's, SP's and other? I don't know but chances are BB included ALL coaches after September, 87. Bruce on this forum has problems with low lighting from low beams, Hi beams are bright. He is tracking down the problem right now. Believes the relays to be in overhead compartment, an 88FC35. All this says is you can still have low lighting with the relays if something goes wrong, relay, bad ground, etc. I recall you being interested in a drawing because your headlights were dimmer than expected thinking perhaps you needed the modification. Heck, I can't say for sure that mine have been done? Just because I have a schematic with the relays on it does not mean that modification has been done to my coach, I will have to check, hope they are. Bob,
Yes, please check with Bluebird re. the PTs & SPs. It will be interesting to know. Other's with newer models than 1987 have requested the headlight upgrade information. Seems they are having problems. As you say, the relays could be there but are bad. The only way to tell if you have good voltage is to test your headlights at the headlight sockets. Several of us created drawings and instructions for upgrading lighting systems. I did our headlight upgrade a couple months ago. What a difference. Now I can see the highway at night with the low beams on. I believe the high/low beam switch is used to trigger the relays. So

Took awhile and a few calls but finally got the location
of the relays from a Mike Burkett at BB. The grille has to be removed, originally Allen head, about 3/16" (on the '87,88,8?) There is a panel on the driver's side below the WS wiper that is either bolted or hinged down. Relays are located there behind that panel. There is no record as to chassis number as to when this started ("records were not too good back then") but once started it was done on all coaches. The "ccn#" is an engineering change number, not a chassis # that I presumed. Hey Mike!, this thread goes back a long ways to Message #12391 when
you said you were heading to Montana in 2 weeks. Do you have that generator running yet? We don't want you to miss the bus, it's yours! And...we hate to see you heading West without the air, been there, done that. Even with the windows open you can get little air. Give a report on what you have found and done, surely one of us here have had a similiar situation. We have all the answers but slap outta questions. You said the "Light" did not come on when you pressed the switch. Have you checked the fuses? Have you measure any voltages?
