Bird Power
For the folks that have never done a Hurricane, there are billboards on the Freeway all over the South advertising Do not attach a generator to your home. The back flow to the power gird can cause serious problems. I am no electrical guru but I know not to power the home with external power unless it is done properly. A 5.5 genset might power an a/c, reefer, a fan and a light on an extension cord(one or more) . I moved out of the Gulf Coast area because I got tired of that crap.

Jack,

The home A/C unit on my house runs off a 50 AMP breaker, which is the

vast majority of your potential power output. Assuming you would want

some of that power for the Bird, you could at least share an extension

cord to plug in their refrigerator and maybe run a fan or two plus a

computer, but not much more. Most home generators for whole house use

will be several times the capacity of your genset.
