The Verizon wireless internet service is $79.95 per month if you are
not a Verizon customer and $59.95 per month if you are. The required
AirCard costs from $49.95 to $179.95 to purchase. The AirCard fits
into the PC Card slot on your laptop. If you have a desktop, there is
an expensive but great alternative which I use. Kyocera just released
a wireless router with a slot to put the AirCard into ($299). You can
then connect by Ethernet cable to one of the four ports on the back or
connect wirelessly.

Speeds in the Broadband Access areas (primarily around major cities)
is very good 400+Kbps (Verizon claims 400-700). In other areas
(National Access) it drops to 50+Kbps (Verizon claims 60-80). Of
course if you can't get a cell phone signal, it won't work at all.

For someone who is traveling part time, it is a great alternative. If
you are traveling full time or spend a great deal of time in areas
where there is limited cell phone coverage, the MotoSat DataStorm
Internet system is still the best (but certainly more expensive)
option. As long as you have line of sight to the satellite (ie no
trees in the way) you will connect with good speeds (typically 700-
1,000 Kbps), regardless of cell coverage.
