				Potable Water and Silver

Are there any water purification experts out there?

I keep hearing more and more about the effectiveness of silver as a purification agent. Grandma used to drop a silver dollar in the milk jug to keep it fresh. Hospitals are discovering that silver is effective on staph infections. I recently purchased a small bottle of silver-based water purification agent for the potable water tank in my class B. So I wonder . . . why couldn't a person just drop a couple ounces of silver in the bottom of the water tank and have a more pure fresh water source? The cost would be about $15 for two ounces.
