Bolt-on generator head to bus engine?
Question about providing 110V my Partybus project:
I'm running through ideas to power at least 1000 watts in my Bluebird to power 110 V TV's, DVD, lights, etc while entertaining parties. 99% of the time the bus will be running also. THOUGHT #1: I was going to mount a gas generator, but there's not convenient locations on this shuttle bus. Except in the rear where the engine is, and I'm worried it may cook my generator or worse yet damage the Cummins from lack of airspace taken up by boxing in the generator to protect it from the heat the diesel puts off. THOUGHT #2: To get a bigger alternator or a separate alternator and a separate battery bank. I've seen other partybuses and limos do this, but I'm not familiar or confident about this method. Anyone's experience with this I'd like to hear. THOUGHT #3: My third thought - and this is the one I need addressed - is that I've heard of bolt-on generator heads that you can have driven off of your bus engine. I'm not sure how these work, but they sound great b/c I could just use engine power to turn the generator head and produce the 110 Volts. Since the bus is running anyway, I might as well use some of the 8.3's power, right? SO, has anyone seen these bolt-on generators? How about the high-amp alternators? Where can I get each of these and how much do they cost? What kind of engine RPM's would I have to run to get some decent charging out of them? I already figured I'd have to leave the fast idle on to help them charge more efficiently. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Steve 2 '98 Bluebird QBRE Partybuses |
