I don't understand the reason to carry a spare these days unless you
are WAAAy out in the boonies, such as in MX or upper Canada. With the
rim and tire, you have maybe $500 - $700 tied up in that spare which
has the same shelf life as the tires you have on the road. Today,
with all the truck road service around, you can get a tire install at
roadside for less than that and you have a new tire, not one that is X
years old. In the past 20 years or so, I can only remember the one
tire going, that old Michelin that blew on the way to Redmond last
summer. We were able to get a new tire installed for less than the
cost of carrying a spare. IF you are replacing the tires as you
should, you should never need a spare anyway. It does make more money
for the tire companies though...
