Break-in Recommendations
its good to have input on the amount of oil you will use while seating
the piston rings. I believe the sleeves get a crosshatch spinn pattern scored with a hone on the fresh walls. as you break-in the reman detroit, the piston rings polish the walls and kinda tune in the rings. during break-in, everytime the piston goes up, oil gets on the sleeve walls in the little crosshatch score marks and the fresh rings wont squeegy the oil off as it comes down. this puts the crankcase lube oil in with the diesel saturated air, then 'bang', the oil gets burned a little at a time. soon the walls are smooth and rings are true. greg94ptca |
