Question about repowering early PT's
I think the complexities of repowering an 8v92 with a Series 60 would
hardly be easy. Remember too, that you'll need a different
transmission adaptor, etc. There must have been some reason (other
than giving more space inside) that BB went from 40 to 42' when they
installed the Series 60... I also note that the S-60 sits higher than
the 8v92, so while the approximate dimensions are the same, the
relative position of the output shaft puts the top of the Series 60
into the bottom of the rear closet (or mattress). Also, doesn't the
S-60 rotate in the opposite direction from the 8v92? If so, it might
require a new transmission and/or differential -- or some other
'trick' like flipping the drive axle upside down. In any event, a lot
of fabrication!

Anyway, the question was to swap a 6v92 for an 8v92 -- increasing
from (around) 300 to 450-500 HP (depending on the 8v92 used). An 8v92
for a Series 60 would trade about 500 HP for about 500 HP -- so
there's no difference in the HP and there's little justification for
the project.

Honestly, the best suggestion is simply to 'trade up' the 6v92
engined PT to one that already has an 8v92.
