Update On My Status In Reno....
Andy, Thanks for keeping us updated on your situation. This is one
of those stories where we all can relate or if not at least be
sympathetic with you. I am not a mechanic and have done little more
then change spark plugs and oil on vehicles but being a dentist I can
see one similarity with BB bus work: ya need access to do the job. I
would be sympathetic with mechanic who said he needed to remove the
engine to do the job. Now not being an expert others may feel that it
was not necessary to remove the engine and I would certainly respect
the opinions of those with experience. Oh, how often I wish I
could "take the engine out" on my day job.

Now that its out it does change things, at least in my mind, about
what should be done. I personally would want to make the best of
this and do anything which is timely since its already out. Just how
far a person would go I guess is what we are looking for in the way
of information. Keep us (me) updated so that when and if it happens
to us we have a clue as to what to do.

I also know that each situation is different. We are at the mercy
under these situations. Just like we are when we have a visit to the
ER when out of town. You do the best you can in the situation you
find yourself and it seems like you have done that. Then you have to
trust the other guy to do his job. I feel for ya and wish you the
best in what is a bad situation.

Update On My Status In Reno....
I am not sure this is relivent out in this jungle filled with CATS.
I had to replace a cracked cylinder head on the Ford 391 when our 73
Bird quit in Grants Pass, OR.
We found a heavy duty shop that said they could do the job. In
addition to pulling the cracked head, I had them pull & Check the
other head, just in case.. All work was done through the open
doghouse. Engine stayed put.. We left in the Toad during the day, but
slept in the Bird each night at the shop, with a 20A hookup.
All work was done nicely, and no lasting damage, except for a near
$2,000 ding to the trusty Visa Card..

for a repair I did not want to do. I expected a 200.00 to 250.00
dollar bill. I got socked with a 950.00 dollar bill. They showed
parts of 650.00 and labor of 300.00.

I had really tried I couild have handled the replacement. Needless to
say I have never darkened there door again.
