water heater - r/r -

The electric heat supply to my water heater has stopped working. It is
an Atwood model, 10.5 gallons.

I have not taken it apart, but assume I will need to replace the whole
unit.

Is this a correct assumption, or per chance, can you replace just the
heating element on this unit?

You can replace the heating unit or replace the whole unit
You will probably have to remove the heater from the coach to access
the element

Roger depending on the age of the unit you might just be better off to put
in a new one.

Hello Roger,
I have an Atwood water heater in our coach that I installed to replace our
original. I've
found that the electric heater element trips out whenever water from the engine
exceeds
185 ºF. After consulting the factory, the way I remedy this situation is as
follows:

1. Shut off power to the heater.
2. Remove sheet metal screws from the square cover over the heating element.
3. Use a screwdriver to push in the red reset button buried in between the
electrical plugs
that supply power to the heater.
4. Replace the cover and restore power.

In the summer I close the hot water circulation off to the heater to prevent
this problem.

Long term fix...replace the Atwood heater with a better choice.

Or, do like I did, shut off the hot water heater, drained it, and
installed a tankless water heater in the bay for unlimited hot water
use.
Now have the electric one as a backup. This water heater issue seems
to me to be the only thing that Bluebird didn't have a backup for.

Several of us have put in the Force Ten and are happy campers. Bruce, Randy,
myself and others have done the install and it is relatively easy.

Just make sure you use the right voltage 120 or 240, and match up the
