Dead Batteries
Went to storage to start bus & generator after three weeks of sitting.
Left 12 Volt master on and all the batteries were totally dead. Jumped the gen to start it. Let it run for 1 1/2 hours. Bus still would not start. Turned off gen. Volt meter read batteries charged to 10 volts. Went back today to start gen and charge batteries some more. Gen battery dead. House batteries totally dead. Checked charge to batteries yesterday: 12 volts. Did I ruin all batteries, house and gen? They were all replaced 5 months ago. Yeah, I know, I had another senior moment leaving the switch on. Dead Batteries
Had the same thing happen once in a remote location,
after all was said and done I found out that a relay that need to trip for the generator to charge house and engine batteries must have en excess of 10 volts. I learned later that all I would have had to do was jump the engine batteries off my tow vehicle or another vehicle to get a jump on the batteries long enough to trip the relay so the engine batteries could be charged. Dead Batteries
Just went out to the bird for the first time in about 2 weeks and the
batteries are stone dead..... I did notice when I plugged it in 2 weeks ago that the polarity little lights in the electrical cord door compartment ,,only 1 of the 2 lights lit up... I also can tell that the charger is not working cause I could always hear it running .. I have a freedom inverter charger...... I,m thinking a breaker or something has tripped ,,but that is just a guess. need some help here from those that know the electrical stuff....... thanks DAN 92 WLWB 40ft. Summerfield Fl./epere Wi. |

I had a problem very similar to this in mid October when I took my coach to FL. Generator powered all circuits but like you nothing from shore power, surge protector would not let any thing through on 50, 30 or 20 amps. I just put it off to bad wiring at the camp ground, dropped it off at Parliament Coach in St. Petersburg and flew home. I got a call from them a week later that they could not get shore power to work either. They were going to check from the plug back to the surge protector and see if the problem was in the cord / plug / connections before the surge protector, don't know what they found but I'll follow up today and let you know. On the gauges mine read for both shore power and the generator. Hey Guys ,, thanks for the help ... I got it figured out with a
meter checking it back from the plug... It was the 40 amp breaker that went bad on 1 leg and because the charger was,nt working ,, killed the batteries dead dead... so I,m hoping They hav,nt been hurt by being run down to nothing......... thanks again... this is the place to ask the question 1992 WLWB 40 ft. Steve, I think the 40AmpB is not on the coach, it's on the supply to
the coach. Sounds like one of the two legs of power never got to the shore receptical. If you notice a 220, 240 breaker has two flip switches tied together , sounds like one of the two switches went bad and the other never switched off. that may be why he had only one green polarity light. ???? If I have to let my bus stand for several days away from 50 amps, I plug one of two chargers directly into an extension cord then off to a docking receptical. I often thought of running a jump from that mini shore location (charger bay) to the refrigerator (IceBox) for the low amp docking of refrig and one charger. During the hookup there would be less danger that use of Electric in the bus will overload and trip the mini shore breaker.
